A lot of Australians will be smiling today when they read the news that their minimum wage has just been given a boost by $17.10 a week.
The rise will see minimum wage rise by 45 cents an hour to $15.96, amounting to $606.40 a week with Fair Work Australia announcing the 2.9% increase today.
However, while the rise is nice for those struggling with day to day living expenses, the upcoming Carbon Tax and Electricity hikes will only take it straight back off them, plus more.
Last year the rise was $26 so this rise is not as high as expected, however, it is not as low as the Australian Chamber of Commerce wanted at just $9.40.
